“Patients who have purchased these products are requested to stop using them and to return them to the point of sale.”
The French National Agency for Medicines (ANSM) has been informed of a recall of several compression stockings and socks marketed by the company Bauerfeind AG. The defective batches have been withdrawn from sale, but people who have them at home are invited to return them to the place of sale where they purchased them. Compression stockings compress the legs and promote blood circulation: they are essential in cases of venous insufficiency and edema, or to reduce the risk of phlebitis on airplanes.
The reason for the recall? Potential defects that follow events that occurred in certain areas of the company’s production during roofing work. The company explains that when drilling into a roof “small metal shavings fell into some production areas of the company.” There is therefore a risk that metal shavings will be “have fallen into production in isolation and products have been contaminated”we can read in the ANSM press release published on July 25, 2024. In this context, it is not impossible that metal shavings have adhered to the products, which could cause friction on the skin when wearing the product.

The affected medical supply stores or pharmacies have been contacted by the company. If the products have already been given to patients, “The recipient must immediately summon the patients and collect the delivered product.” Unsold merchandise will be returned to the supplier.
Patients who have purchased these compression stockings and socks are asked to stop using them and to return them to the point of sale where they were purchased. They will be able to benefit from a standard exchange. The return of defective products must be made by August 2, 2024.
