They regularly find themselves in unpleasant and absurd situations with their classmates, the teaching staff around school principal Sister George Michael (Siobhan McSweeney) and their respective families and dream of one day outgrowing their province.

Derry Girls is full of quirky characters and absurdly great humor

What makes Derry Girls special are, on the one hand, the quirky characters around the eponymous group of friends, who are brilliantly brought to life in the series by Nicola Coughlan, Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Co. On the other hand, the Irish series impresses with its very specific and dry humorwhich ranges from situational comedy to cleverly constructed script lines by series creator and author Lisa McGee.

And the cast utters it so effortlessly and authentically that you can’t help but burst into hysterical laughter and take the Derry Girls, with their all too mundane and understandable teenage problems, to your heart. Comedy hasn’t been this good and innovative since Fleabag.

It is not for nothing that the series has a rating of 7.9/10 points from the Moviepilot community – leaving Bridgerton (6.6/10 points) far behind. At Rotten Tomatoes, Derry Girls even has an incredible critics’ score of 99 percent against an audience rating of 94 percent.
