Hardest consequence for the most forceful kiss – a three-year ban from Fifa for Luis Rubiales

The Swedish Football Association took a stand on the scandal

The suspension of the former president of the Spanish Football Association is valid both nationally and internationally.

The disciplinary committee of the international football association Fifa has given the former president of the Spanish Football Association For Luis Rubiales a three-year ban from all football-related activities. The ban is valid both nationally and internationally.

Rubiales came under huge criticism at the awards ceremony after the Women’s World Cup final in August when she kissed a Spain player Jennifer Hermosoa forced into the mouth. For example, many former players as well as politicians the prime minister Pedro Sanchez even criticized Rubiales harshly.

Rubiales initially did not agree to resign as president of the Spanish Football Federation. Spanish prosecutors opened a preliminary investigation into Rubiales’ kiss. A spokesperson for the Prosecutor’s Office said in September that the punishment for a kiss without consent can be a fine or up to four years in prison.

Fifa previously banned Rubiales for 90 days. In September, Rubiales finally announced his resignation. Also head coach of the women’s national team Jorge Vilda was forced to leave his post due to the scandal.

So now Fifa would ban Rubiales for three years. Rubiales has ten days to appeal the decision.
