The 59th Munich Security Conference, held in Germany, continues on its second day. In his speech at the conference, Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, reacted to the US shooting down the Chinese balloon, which he described as a “watch bubble”.
“Sending a fighter jet to shoot down a balloon, such actions are hysterical and ridiculous,” said Wang Yi. Wang Yi reminded that they sincerely wanted the United States to correct its mistakes, confront the incident that damaged China-US relations and solve the problem. Wang said, “There are many balloons in the world, will the United States shoot them all down?” He expressed his hope that the USA would follow a pragmatic and positive China policy and work to return bilateral relations to a healthy development direction.
‘IN THE UKRAINE CRISIS, WE DO NOT SIT AND WATCH NOR GO TO THE FIRE’
In his assessment of the Ukraine crisis, Wang Yi said, “I advise everyone, especially our European friends, to think calmly about what efforts we can make to stop this war.” Referring to his country’s stance on the Ukraine crisis, Wang Yi said, “China will neither sit back and watch nor add fuel to the fire. China will continue to call for peace and dialogue.” Wang Yi noted that China will publish a document on the Ukraine crisis, explaining its stance on the issue and emphasizing the need to respect the territorial integrity of all countries. “It seems that some countries do not want the negotiations to succeed or the war to end as soon as possible,” Wang Yi said.
‘WE MUST RESOLVE THE SINGLE CHINA POLICY’
Evaluating the crisis between China and Taiwan, Wang Yi said, “If we want to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait, we must resolutely oppose Taiwan’s independence and resolutely uphold the one-China policy.”
On the other hand, while China sees Taiwan as a part of its territory, it wants to take control of Taiwan under the name of “peaceful reunification” and states that it will not hesitate to use force on this issue.
