Hard rules that the participants in The Traitors must follow

Last year, the program “The Traitors” debuted on TV4. It quickly became a success and this autumn the program is running again with a new season.

This year there are 20 participants who are pitted against each other and all participants agree TV4 “handpicked to the program for the qualities and skills they possess”.

There is no doubt that the game is psychological, clever and stressful. The game is stepped up another level due to the strict rules that prevail inside the castle, which, among other things, exclude the participants from the outside world.

There are actually a whole series of rules that the participants need to adhere to.

– It’s almost a whole book in itself, says Joh Janrellexecutive producer of “The Traitors” to TV4 News.

Here are the rules in “The Traitors”

Here are some of the rules that participants need to follow:

  • Participants are not allowed to bring their mobile phone into the castle.
  • Contestants are not allowed to talk about the game when the cameras are not on.
  • Participants must be in their rooms at certain times.
  • All the windows are closed so that it is not possible to see out.
  • The production needs to wear similar clothes, mouth guards and caps to remain anonymous.
  • – We have been variously tough during the seasons. Sometimes they have been allowed to talk while sitting and eating, but they are not allowed to talk about the game. We have people who sit with us and overhear what is said, who are usually told that they must be quiet. The better the participants are at sticking to the rules, the more enjoyable it will be. But sometimes it’s difficult when you have a social need, says Johan Janrell.

The rule that is broken most often

Some rules are broken more often than others and one of the most common to be broken is the rules of order.

    – Breaking rules such as cheating, that has not happened, I would say. But breaking rules of order, like talking about the game when we’re not filming, it’s broken almost all the time. But that’s not what we send them home for, he says.
