Happy reactions after no to expanded quarrying in Södra Sandby

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The forest farmer Göran Boijsen is one of those who had a negative attitude to an expansion of the quarry in Södra Sandby. The criticism is mainly based on the impact of the quarry on the groundwater levels and the national marshes that have been drained.

– I was actually pleasantly surprised that they had taken on board all the opinions that came in, says Göran Boijsen, who owns part of the land around Skrylletäkten.

“Feel heard”

The protests have also come from Lund’s Nature Protection Association. Biologist Leif Runeson is one of those who participated in the final negotiations on behalf of the Nature Conservation Society.

– The unique thing about this judgment was that the Nature Conservation Association was quoted on 17 pages, so we feel heard and it was about time, says Leif Runeson, secretary of the association.

NCC: Unfortunate decision

NCC has presented a plan for how the sensitive natural area can be protected, but the Land and Environment Court’s assessment is that the protective measures are not sufficient.

SVT Nyheter Skåne has been in contact with NCC, which writes in an email that the decision is unfortunate and will make it difficult for region Skåne to secure a local material supply when the current permit expires in 2028. They do not yet want to say whether they will appeal the decision to the Land and Environmental Court of Appeal.
