Haparanda’s bathhouse construction started: “Swimming is the best life insurance”

It was in February 2020 that the bathhouse was forced to close its doors due to moisture damage and mold growth. Since then, the municipality’s schoolchildren have had to be bussed to Tornio in Finland to receive swimming lessons.

Haparanda’s municipal councilor, Nina Waara (S), believes that it has had a negative effect on swimming skills.

– This means the most to our children and young people. Becoming a good swimmer is the best life insurance you can get, she says.

The solution during construction

The bath house is expected to be ready in December 2025. During the construction period, the municipality has taken measures to prevent the children from falling behind.

– Now we have a better dialogue with the city of Torneå and next school year they will give us more swimming opportunities, says Nina Waara.

In the clip, you will hear more about Haparanda’s investment in a new bathhouse.
