Hanna Öberg’s glorious comeback in the World Cup – beat little sister Elvira Öberg after successful race: “Strong”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Hanna Öberg was last missing due to illness.
But in Ruhpolding, Germany, she was back – and with a message.
The Swede gave a great effort and showed good form despite the ailments.

Hanna Öberg was back from his illness when the World Cup had gone to Germany and Ruhpolding for distance races of 15 kilometers. The sister Elvira Öberg has in the meantime shown brilliant form where, above all, the shooting has been formidable.

Back after the illness

Anna Magnusson, who shocked everyone when she took home her very first victory just before the New Year, was however the first Swede to set out on the trail. There, however, there was a boom in the first shooting, but the Öberg sisters followed closely behind, both quickly following suit. However, it was clear that a top performance would be required to be in the fight for the top positions, as many of the big names had a really good day on the shooting range.

The start was perfect for the two Öberg sisters, and even though Hanna missed a shot in the second shooting, the form looked good after the illness. Sister Elvira followed suit and missed a shot too, for the sake of unusualness. The race continued in the same style for both of them, where Hanna Öberg in particular showed good form.
– It is gratifying that Hanna Öberg is so strong in the comeback, in terms of riding it is just as good. If not better. It’s just like before Christmas before she got sick, says SVT expert Björn Ferry.

Hanna’s message of joy

The Swedes could initially be happy that most of the top skaters missed at least one shot as well, and thus it was set up for real drama before the final match. The Italian Lisa Vittozzi and the World Cup leader Julia Simon however, impressed greatly, and with the Swedish barriers, the Swedish side had to aim for third place.

Both Hanna and Elvira shot hard in the last, but unfortunately there was no Swedish podium. But both of them can, despite that, take home fine performances from Thursday’s distance race, where Hanna Öberg can be happy that she placed herself ahead of her sister, who was responsible for several great efforts.

Something bitter for Hanna, however, was that she was only a measly second behind the Italian Dorothea Wierer in third place. Elvira was unable to match her sister, but finished just over ten seconds behind in fifth place. In the end, however, the islanders had to see themselves each placed down by the French Lou Jeanmonnot.
