Student Bachar Garar, 22, was wrongly identified as a known gang criminal with child soldiers.
Now he has reported the former Member of Parliament Hanif Bali to the police.
– My family and I are very worried, says Bachar Garar.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson’s question and answer session in Gothenburg was interrupted prematurely after people booed and accused them of having blood on their hands. In the audience were also pro-Palestinian protesters.
On platform X, Expressenko columnist and former M member Hanif Bali spread a clip of a man being led out by police.
Bali writes that the man on the film is part of the infamous Ali Khan clan, who “took a break from running their drug empire with child soldiers and began to get involved with Palestinian children.”
But actually his name is Bachar Garar and he is a 22-year-old student, which the communist newspaper Proletären was the first to report on.
He is the vice president of the European Palestinian Youth Union and was there to protest the government’s actions during the ongoing Gaza crisis.
“We acted in a completely normal way to make Ulf Kristersson understand that his actions are wrong. We clearly expressed our opposition to the genocide going on in Gaza and called on him to condemn it and vote for a ceasefire,” he writes in an email.
Aftonbladet has asked Bachar Garar how he views his own actions during the question period where he is led out by the police, but has not received an answer.
Reported to the police
Bachar Garar says he is very worried about being mistaken for a gang criminal and that it will affect him or his family.
“It is unbelievable how a high-ranking politician can so easily single out someone in that way without solid evidence”, he writes and continues:
“Since my image was spread in connection with claims that I was a leader of a criminal gang, it could lead to threats to my life and false perceptions of my identity.”
He also states that on Thursday he reported Hanif Bali to the police for defamation.
“I really hope that the police take the case seriously. Hopefully, those who exposed me and my family to threats will face consequences,” he writes.
After the incident, Bali shared a new post. There he explains that it has gone wrong. Photo: Screenshot/XBali: “Shouldn’t eat”
Hanif Bali does not believe that Bachar Garar has been defamed.
– Now it is the case that if you look at it from a purely legal point of view, it is rather the designated gang leader who is being slandered and not this person in question, but it is perhaps good that he gets some legal review and can feel safe about it, he says.
Do you regret the tweet?
– It was incorrect. The so-called gang leader wasn’t there so I removed it, so it’s quite obvious. It’s like all other publications that are made and it goes wrong, of course you wish it was right from the start.
He claims he and his family were threatened after this tweet, what do you think?
– It probably sounds quite unlikely that it is because of that tweet. He’ll probably have to lead it into evidence a bit.
He’s upset that he’s being accused of being a gang leader who took a break from his drug empire with child soldiers, what do you think?
– If his name is not Ali Khan, he should not eat, says Hanif Bali.
