Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, expressed his excitement on X.com (formerly Twitter) about the new animated series Blue Eye Samurai on Netflix. He particularly liked the timeless theme and the complex characters.
Blue Eye Samurai by Blist is an animated series that appeared on Netflix in early November 2023. It’s about the revenge campaign of the samurai warrior Mizu, who wants to take revenge on the men who are responsible for the death of her mother.
The series is released for ages 16 and up and is based on classic samurai and revenge films. Blue Eye Samurai is aimed more at an adult audience and also shows brutal fights with a lot of bloodshed.

Hideo Kojima is not only a well-known game maker, but also an avowed cineaste, i.e. a big fan of film art.
On November 23, 2023, he published a post on X.com/Twitter in which he expressed his admiration for the new Netflix series Blue Eye Samurai:

What does Kojima say about the series? The game maker announces that he has just watched all 8 episodes of the series and the entire production is wonderful and beautiful.
“Without a doubt, the best anime of the year! “It is a visual work that goes beyond the general standard of animation,” writes Kojima enthusiastically.
In his opinion, Blue Eye Samurai would have reached a new level after Spider Man: Spider-Verse and Arcane when it comes to animated films and series for an adult audience.
The theme and message behind the series “Is the avenging demon a demon or a samurai?” Is he really a monster?” is still relevant today, although the series is set in Edo (Tokyo) in the 17th century.
Finally, Kojima finds words of praise for the characters in the series. Although he initially didn’t like the characters Ringo, Taigen and Akemi, he grew to like them more and more as he learned more about their backstories.
Finally, the game maker recommends Blue Eye Samurai and says “If you don’t watch it, you’re missing out.”
Hideo Kojima is not alone with this opinion. Other critics and viewers are also enthusiastic about the Netflix production, which led to very good ratings on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes.

A second season of the series has not yet been announced. However, due to the enormous popularity of the animated series, there is definitely the possibility of a sequel.
