Handball: Magdeburg postpones match after the tragedy

It was during the Friday evening that a car drove into a crowd at a Christmas market in Magdeburg. At least four people were killed and around 200 people were injured.

“Yesterday’s terrible event, with several fatalities and injuries, fills us with great sadness and sympathy. Out of respect for those involved and their families, we have decided to ask for the match to be postponed,” writes handball club SC Magdeburg.

Five Swedes play in Magdeburg’s successful team, which won the Champions League last year. Oscar Bergendahl and Albin Lagergren are two of the players who have published heart emojis and lit candles in sympathy with the victims on Instagram.
