In earthquake-stricken Syria, the devastation and the need for help after the earthquake is enormous. Hanan Gharib has relatives living in the affected city of Latakia in Syria. She has daily contact with her relatives and talks about how difficult it is for them there.
– There are still aftershocks, people are scared and don’t know where to go, says Gharib.
Many apply to schools, churches and sports halls. They don’t have a roof over their heads.
Political conflict hinders aid
Political conflicts, winter weather and impassable roads make aid work difficult. The World Health Organization (WHO) has been standing at the Turkish-Syrian border for several days waiting to be allowed into the country. Aron Lund, analyst at the Total Defense Research Institute, explains what is preventing help from arriving.
