    Han Kang has stayed away from the media since this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature was announced on Thursday.

    No one, apart from the Swedish Academy, has received a comment from this year’s Nobel laureate in literature – until now.

    “I was very surprised when I first got the news about the award. When the phone call ended, I slowly regained my sense of reality and I began to feel emotional,” Han Kang writes in a statement.

    The police have received an alert about a suspected dangerous object in Södervärn in Malmö.

    The object has been found in a courtyard and the police assess that the object may be sharp.

    – We are in the process of accommodating residents. The police’s contact center will call those affected, says police spokesperson Evelina Olsson.

    How many are to be accommodated?

    – This object was found at an apartment building and there are three streets that have windows facing the courtyard. So there are probably quite a few.

    The National Bomb Squad is on its way to the scene.

    – They must examine the object and make their assessment. Only then can we say with 100 percent whether the object is dangerous or not, says Evelina Olsson.

    Update: Police say the dangerous object was pyrotechnics. The national bomb protection agency assesses the object as harmless.

  • New earthquake in Malmberget

    A new earthquake has shaken Malmberget in Gällivare municipality on Friday afternoon.

    The earthquake occurred at 1 p.m. and had a magnitude of 2.33, the mining company states LKAB.

    Barely two weeks ago, three earthquakes occurred in the malmberg mine during the same evening.

    The strongest quake then had a magnitude of 2.61 and residents testified of discomfort and dissatisfaction with the operations in the mine.

  • Person on electric scooter hit by car

    At 14.40 the police were alerted to an accident where a person on an electric scooter had been hit by a car.

    The accident occurred in western Linköping and one person has been taken to hospital.

    – The person was awake and able to speak after the accident, but the extent of the damage is unclear, says Olle Älveroth, the police’s press officer.

    Right now there is no criminal classification, but it may be investigated.

    Several acts of violence have occurred in Malmö recently.

  • Man in his 30s is suspected of murdering the father of a small child

    Another person has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a father of a small child in Malmö on Monday. This is reported by P4 Malmöhus.

    The father was in his 50s and was shot through the window of the apartment where he lived with his family.

    The 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday and is in custody.

    A 16-year-old boy has already been detained on suspicion of murder.

    Shortly before 2 pm on Friday afternoon, the police were alerted that a car had driven through a hedge and onto a plot of land in Eskilstuna.

    The police are working at the scene to investigate what happened.

    Dutch manufacturer Berg Toys BV is recalling the Berg Basketball Twinhoop basketball basket that is mounted on trampolines.

    Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has resumed treatment for her chronic lung disease pulmonary fibrosis, reports VG.

  • After Milton – man rescued by cooler off Florida coast

    A US Coast Guard helicopter rescued a man in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday after Hurricane Milton. He was 48 km off the coast, according to US Coast Guard.

    The man was on board a fishing vessel and managed to call the Coast Guard on Wednesday. But it wasn’t until the following day that he could be rescued from the water, where he was floating clinging to a cooler.

    “This man survived a nightmare scenario, even for the most experienced mariner,” said Coast Guard representative Dana Grady.

    The authority estimated that he survived winds of around 40 meters per second and waves of up to 7.6 meters during his night at sea.

    A tree has fallen over cars on Drottningholmsvägen in Stockholm.

    The emergency services are on site and are directing traffic while they try to remove the tree, which is currently over three lanes of traffic. According to the Rescue Service, two cars were hit by the tree.

    An ambulance is on the scene, but there are currently no reports of injuries.

  • Smuggled a ton of cannabis – six are sentenced

    Six people are sentenced to between four and nine years in prison for serious drug smuggling and particularly serious drug crimes, the Gothenburg District Court states in a press release.

    It concerns two loads of cannabis of 500 kilos each, which were shipped in containers from Canada to the port of Gothenburg in October last year and in February this year.

    After the narcotics were discovered by customs, the police placed recording equipment in the container and let the delivery proceed to the final destination Norrköping. Telephone tapping and drone surveillance have also been used in the reconnaissance work.

    The district court is now sentencing the six people for various involvement in the crimes.

    The total market value of the drugs is estimated to be approximately SEK 124 million.

    A German tanker carrying fuel oil catches fire in the Baltic Sea, reports Echo.

    Seven crew members have been brought ashore by the sea rescue, writes the channel and refers to German media.

    Firefighters are now working to fight the flames.
