The former Swedish national team captain is allowed to go since Ålborg won only one of the 13 games he has been head coach and the club is last in the table.
Erik Hamrén led Ålborg to Danish league gold in 2008 and was called back to the club in September last year after then coach Lars Friis had to leave due to a weak start to the season.
“We are disappointed that this stay was not more successful, but Erik will always have a very special place in Aalborg’s history,” says club chairman Thomas Bælum in a press release.
Oscar Hiljemark, who was part of the Swedish team that won the U21 European Championship in 2015, has been Hamrén’s assistant and now takes over the main responsibility.
