Boston defenseman Hampus Lindholm both saved and scored as he helped his team defeat Washington 3-2 in the NHL tonight.
– I owe him a couple of Swedish coffees, says teammate and goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman after the Swede’s matchless save.
In the opening minute, Hampus Lindholm dived towards his own goal, behind goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman, and kicked the puck away right in front of the goal line with his stick.
– I was quite excited when it happened, it obviously saved a goal and two points, says Swayman after the match and promised to offer a couple of rounds of coffee as a thank you.
Lindholm himself didn’t think much when it happened, he just did what a back does.
– You just try to prevent them from scoring. I didn’t think too much, just tried to help in the best way I can, says Lindholm after the match.
And he continued to do so, scoring the game’s first goal at the end of the first period.
The match went to extra time, where Hampus Lindholm was sent off for four minutes for a high stick. But the teammates held on and the meeting was decided by penalties.
Boston is already ready for the NHL playoffs.
