Hammarby is cup champion in football.
On Tuesday, the Stockholm team defeated BK Häcken – in front of a large crowd.
When Hammarby won against AIK in the Damallsvenskan two years ago, 18,537 people made their way to the Tele2 arena. Never before had so many people made it to a club team match on the women’s side in Sweden.
When Hammarby welcomed BK Häcken to the final of the Swedish Cup during National Day, 17,623 people came to the match. In front of a large crowd, the Stockholm team managed to win its first cup title on the women’s side in 28 years.
The jubilation was big when national team star Madelen Janogy scored the 1–0 goal at the beginning of the first half. Ten minutes later, the same player made it 2–0.
And with 20 minutes left in the match, Maika Hamano from Japan scored the third goal of the match with a delicious chip over BK Häcken’s goalkeeper.
When the referee blew the match off, the Hammarby supporters stormed the field and celebrated with their winning team.
