Hamid Noury’s son’s strong criticism of the Swedish judiciary

During Tuesday, the Court of Appeal determined the sentence against Hamid Noury - who is convicted of having participated in several executions in Iran.
In the pro-regime news agency Fars News Agency, the son strongly criticizes the outcome and how the process was handled.
It will be a great shame for the Swedish judiciary, he says.

The Court of Appeal upheld the district court’s life sentence against Hamid Noury. He is convicted of grave crimes against humanity and murder – after participating in several executions of political prisoners in Iran in 1988.

The sentence was unsurprisingly condemned in Iran. The state news agency Irna accuses the Swedish court and judiciary of harassing and subjecting Noury to “mental torture” during the four years he was imprisoned.

“Unable to pursue a legal process”

In an interview with the Fars News Agency, which is run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, an armed organization that supports Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Hamid Noury’s son expresses strong criticism of the Swedish judiciary.

– The message I get as the son of Hamid Noury is that Swedes are not capable of running a legal process, says Majid Noury.

He claims that Sweden used the trial against his father to “put pressure” on Iran and that it is part of a political plan.

– It certainly has certain goals with this, since we have presented all the evidence that they themselves could not answer during the trial.

Iran wants a prisoner exchange

The son tells the news agency that they intend to take the matter further to international courts. He also says that Sweden “will not achieve its goals”.

– There we will present all our evidence. It will be a great shame for the Swedish judiciary, says Majid Noury.

According to several observers, Iran has detained the Swedish EU official Johan Floderus with the aim of obtaining a prisoner exchange with Noury. He was captured during a voyage to Iran last year for espionage and faces the death penalty.
