Hämeenlinna Volleyball Club celebrates the women’s Finnish Cup championship in Tampere. In an extremely tight final, the Hämeenlinna people rose from their predicament and defeated LP Kangasala after a tight battle 3–2 (23–25, 25–23, 24–26, 25–18, 15–7).

Hämeenlinna’s victory can be considered a surprise, as the team is eighth in the Championship. It first knocked out top seed Puijo in the semifinals and second seed LP Kangasala in the final.

In the semifinals, the team rose from a 0–2 loss position to a 3–2 victory.

– It feels incredibly good. We’ve had a really tough season, as everyone knows. Last weekend was difficult, but we were able to rise as a team. It feels really great, I’m so proud of each and every girl, Captain Michaela Madsen comment.

– We have been able to combine defense with defensive play. We get a lot more seats. Now the reward (for the large amount of work) came, Madsen sighed.

The head coach Giovanni Torchio was naturally proud of his protégé’s performance, but he didn’t allow too much time to celebrate. The team will face Kangasala again on Wednesday.

– The team did a wonderful job this weekend, this will surely leave great memories. They asked for three days (time to celebrate), I’ll give maybe two. Let’s see if we can stretch to two and a half days.

Sixth Finnish Cup championship

For Hämeenlinna, the Finnish Cup championship was the sixth overall. However, five years have passed since the last championship.

– The cap probably opened with yesterday’s game. Today, Hämeenlinna was tactically very involved throughout the match, especially in saves. There were 22 straight saves, which is really a lot. In addition, they had a lot to do with Kangasala’s attacks in the defense. With the attacks after that, they killed it much better than Kangasala, Urheilu’s expert Riikka Lehtonen your sum.

– Throughout the match, Kangasala’s reception was significantly better than Hämeenlinna’s, but throughout the match Kangasala’s attack went down and Hämeenlinna’s went up. It was braver playing, Lehtonen continued.

Lehtonen raised Hämeenlinna to be successful by Jenny Mosserby Madsen and Pipsa Roivainen.

– Mosser was definitely the driving force both yesterday and today. On Ade Owokoniran had a bad day in attack, but he matched his own play brilliantly with saves, improved to the end and took on more and more of a role.

– Madsen played a great match, a lot of saves, he didn’t get a lot of balls, but the ones he got, he killed with a very good percentage. Pipsa Roivainen’s award for the best player was really great from this weekend, that in a way a third passari is dug out of the bag. He can be really proud.
