Hamas weakened but still present in Gaza

The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza is due to come into force this Sunday, January 19. The announcement of this truce is welcomed with relief by the Palestinians after 15 months of war which devastated the Gaza Strip and left more than 46,000 dead, mostly civilians. Hamas, for its part, lost fighters and its main leaders were killed. The Islamist movement is weakened, but it is far from having been eliminated, as Israel wanted.
