Haniyeh had recently stated in a statement on Hamas’ website that Israel had been committing genocide against the people of Gaza for the last 10 months, that there had been an unprecedented increase in the number of prisoners dying in Israeli prisons, that a systematic smear campaign was being carried out regarding the conditions in which prisoners were living, and that crimes such as psychological and physical torture, slow killing, and deprivation of treatment, food and medicine were being committed against prisoners held in Gaza.
HE CRITICIZED THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY
In the statement, Haniyeh emphasized that the international community was incapable of stopping these attacks on the Palestinian people and prisoners, that the US administration supported these attacks, and that human rights institutions failed to provide the necessary support to the people of Gaza and the prisoners in prisons.
AUGUST 3 CALL
Haniyeh declared August 3 as a national and international day to support the people of Gaza and the prisoners in Israeli prisons, calling on all Islamic, Arab and world countries to hold demonstrations on that day.
The Hamas leader had called for the demonstrations to continue until Israel’s attacks on the people of Gaza and the prisoners stopped.
