Labeled as a terrorist, Hamas announces according to AFP that it stands by a proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza to which Israel had objections.
“The ball is therefore now completely in the hands of the occupation,” Hamas stated on Friday night.
Israel also considers the two-day round of negotiations in Cairo to be over, reports Reuters. According to an Israeli official, Israel has submitted its reservations to the mediators.
Both Hamas and Israel’s negotiating delegations have left Cairo, Egyptian media reported on Thursday.
The distances in the talks have not decreased, according to John Kirby, spokesman for the US Security Council.
– This does not mean that we have given up hope. We still believe there is a way forward, but it requires both sides to show leadership, he said on Thursday.
