On Wednesday, Qatar’s prime minister will hold a press conference on a ceasefire in Gaza between Hamas and Israel.
The parties are in agreement, according to officials within Hamas and in Qatar.
The truce is valid for six weeks, Reuters reports, citing sources with access to information.
During this period, Israeli forces must gradually withdraw from Gaza.
According to Dagbladet, which refers to Reuters, the agreement also means that:
In a post on his app Truth Social, US President-to-be Donald Trump comments on the truce:
“We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East. They will be released shortly. Thanks”.
According to Alexander Atarodi, Middle East expert and researcher at the Gothenburg School of Economics, the recent meetings are different compared to previous attempts to bring about a ceasefire.
– The big difference is that the US is pushing in a way we haven’t seen before, he says.
Both the outgoing and the incoming president want an agreement.
– Joe Biden has pushed and President-elect Donald Trump wants an agreement in place when he takes office next week, says Alexander Atarodi.
