Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud celebrates the overall victory of the Central European hill week in Bischofshofen. Granerud, 26, won Mäkiviiko’s final race in Austria by 7.9 points over Slovenia To Anze Lanisek. The runner-up in the overall competition, from Poland Dawid Kubacki was third.
Lanisek was third in the overall competition. Kubacki continues at the top of the World Cup. Last year’s runner-up, Norway Marius Lindvik too Mäkiviikko ran away to rejection in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The Norwegian jumper last won Mäkiviiko in 2007, when Anders Jacobsen was number one.
– Absolutely sick, absolutely sick. My biggest dream has come true. Winning hill week was the only thing I had as a goal this year, so now the season has been good and I can only enjoy the end, Granerud said according to VG (you switch to another service).
– Completely indescribable. This means very, very much, Norway’s head of ski jumping Clas Brede Bråthen said for NRK (you switch to another service).
Granerud was close to the “Grand Slam”, i.e. winning all four events. Granerud, who came third in the previous Mäkiviki, now won the competitions in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Bischofshofen.
Kubacki, the Norwegian’s worst rival, won the race in Innsbruck. At that time, Granerud was second.
Only Sven Hannawald, Kamil Stoch and Ruyou Kobayashi have been able to win all four competitions at the same time.
Niko Kytösaho jumped 128 meters in the opening round of Bischofshofen and was out of the second round. Antti Aalto suffered the same fate. Vilho Palosaari and Eetu Nousiainen did not make it to the competition.
The best Finnish performances of the tour were Palosaari’s 26th place in Garmisch and Aalto’s 27th place in Innsbruck.
