17 years ago, Bond star Halle Berry was about to star in her third major Marvel film. In the first In the X-Men trilogy she played the superhero Storm – a mutant who can bring about extreme weather conditions. But apparently producers feared that the superstar might not return for the finale. Quite rightly: Berry was disappointed with the development of her character and wanted more screen time.
How could the actress be convinced to return? Director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) says he observed a vile scene.
Fake script for X-Men 3: The makers wanted to lure Halle Berry into the film with this nasty trick
Matthew Vaughn was in talks to direct X-Men: The Last Stand. At the recent New York City Comic-Con, he described why he left the job.
One of the main reasons I left X-Men 3, and this is a true story: I walked into a producer’s office and saw an X-Men 3 script. It’s much thicker. I asked, ‘What kind of design is this?’. They said, ‘Don’t worry about it.’ So I grabbed it and opened it up and it said, ‘Africa. Children are dying because of lack of water, and Storm creates a thunderstorm to save all these children.’
That actually sounds very interesting and like a good way to point out a serious problem. That’s how Vaughn saw it too. “I thought that was a pretty cool idea. I said, ‘What is that?’ They said, ‘That’s the Halle Berry script because she hasn’t signed yet. That is their wish. And when she signs it, we’ll throw it in the trash.'”

That was too much for the director: “I thought, ‘If you do something like that with an Oscar winner […]I’m out.”
Was Halle Berry in X-Men 3? What happened to the scenes?
Ultimately, it wasn’t Matthew Vaughn who directed X-Men 3, but Brett Ratner. And Halle Berry actually returned for X-Men 3. It is unknown whether the fake script was ever presented to her. But her role in the blockbuster is slightly larger than in the previous two parts. Of course, the scenes described didn’t make it into the final film.
