Redfall is one of the highlights of the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022. The new co-op game attracts with vampires and shooting. Actually quite pretty – if there weren’t a detail that goes against the grain of MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus.
Redfall does a lot of things right. From the announcements on the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase, co-op play was definitely one of my favorites. Even before that I was really interested in Redfall and the new trailer has only fueled that interest.
The beginning is not so terribly exciting. Vampires have taken over a city, locked out the sun, and dried up a lake. Some cultists celebrate the bloodsuckers and the few survivors fight back, yadda yadda.
It gets exciting from about 2:47 minutes. The game features four different playable characters with unique abilities. Right at the start: a sniper who can summon a raven and who has some kind of vampire eye.
Excellent! Exactly my thing. I love snipers and like to support with distance punches from afar. Even after that, everything looks like an excellent game. From about 3:20 minutes there is stealth gameplay, coupled with teamwork.
There’s nothing more satisfying than coordinating with your squad and taking out multiple enemies at once. And if things go wrong and the enemies become aware, the special abilities come into play, as can be seen impressively from minute 4:
One detail takes all my anticipation away
Although the new trailer is full of interesting new info and gameplay about Redfall, I’m skeptical.
I really, really like everything and I want to try the game with friends. But at about 5:23 minutes, a single screen flickers up very briefly. It shows a loadout and for just a split second you can see how weapons compare to their stats.
I probably don’t make many friends with it, especially on MeinMMO, but I just don’t like loot shooters. Destiny sucks, Borderlands sucks. When I want to shoot, it just bothers me when I have to constantly compare weapons in the inventory.
Yes, I knew beforehand that looting and leveling will be part of Redfall. But the new image looks like too much detail for me to enjoy.
“Then just use what you like!” – Yes, haha. I like to play my character as well as possible and I like challenges. If I wanted to compare Excel spreadsheets all day to get that one percent better with one weapon, then I would play EVE.
The classes look so varied and you can apparently even skillen. That’s enough for personal customization. Why do I have to be littered with weapons, 95% of which end up at the dealer or in the shredder anyway?
The GamePro preview of Redfall with interview paints a picture of an open world, less mission gameplay like in Left4Dead. I really hope that Redfall doesn’t orient itself too much on Borderlands – otherwise I’ll certainly lose interest quickly.
When is Redfall coming? Redfall is scheduled for release in September 2022 for Xbox and PC, by the way as one of the 36 new games directly in Xbox Game Pass. So for that reason alone I’m going to try it anyway.
Having said that, I hope the loot aspect isn’t as big as it seems just from this one image. New weapons… fine, but with new abilities, not stats, please.
I will test Redfall and give the title a chance. Maybe it won’t be that bad, even if my hype is now really dampened. In a pinch, I’ll just go back to Nightingale:
