Over 560,000 residents of Yemen have been affected by floods “unprecedented” in the country on the Arabian Peninsula. This is reported by the UN’s migration agency IOM, which is appealing for international support of the equivalent of SEK 130 million in emergency support to the vulnerable population.
“The scale of the destruction is enormous, and we must immediately get additional financial help to avoid the most vulnerable being left behind,” says Matt Huber, IOM’s director in Yemen.
Unusually heavy rains and subsequent floods have been ongoing since the end of July, which has meant acute problems in Yemen, which belongs to one of the world’s poorest countries and is badly scarred by civil strife.
