The former world number one has fallen to ninth place in the ranking after a few difficult years. At the beginning of 2022, Simona Halep was close to giving up tennis completely, she has said, and despite a rekindling with the collaboration with new coach Patrick Mouratoglou, the setbacks have partly continued.
At the French Championships last summer, Halep went out against 19-year-old Chinese Qinwen Zheng after suffering a panic attack. In the WTA tournament in Washington in August, she broke a match for health reasons. And in the US Open recently, it ended unexpectedly already in the first round against Ukrainian qualifier Darija Snihur.
Halep has now fixed one of the problems.
“Some of you already know that I have had problems with my nose for a while, and it got worse during the summer, especially in Washington. This problem has made it difficult for me to breathe, and it has been even worse at night when the nose became completely blocked. The only solution was to undergo an operation,” writes Simona Halep Twitter.
Therefore, there will be no play for a while for the 30-year-old, and the WTA playoffs starting on October 31 could be in danger.
“I will need a few weeks of rest before I can start again,” writes Halep.
