Haldimand County will soon be installing pedestrian crossovers in several new locations.
Plans call for crossovers to be installed at the Talbot Street (Highway 3) at Thorburn Street in Cayuga; Talbot Street (Highway 3) at Saunders Drive in Jarvis; Main Street (Highway 6) at Marathon Street in Hagersville; George Street (Highway 3) at Lock Street in Dunnville and Rainham Road (Road 3) at Port Maitland Road (Road 11) in Byng.
The work is expected to take place over the next month.
All crossovers in Haldimand will have “Stop for Pedestrian” signage along with yellow flashing lights activated by a push of a button. The crossover, meanwhile, is identified on the roadway by ladder-style pavement markings and triangles indicating where motorists and cyclists must stop.
By law, motorists and cyclists must stop, yield and wait for pedestrians to cross and reach the other side before driving through the crossover.
Motorists and pedestrians are responsible for understanding and following the rules of the road, the county said in a statement.
The first crossover in Haldimand was installed in 2020 on Main Street in Dunnville between Bridge Street and Queen Street. A second crossover was installed two years later on Argyle Street North at Sutherland Street in Caledonia.
