Hakkanen reacts to Trumps speeches with moderation In any case

The other NATO countries will take Trump’s flashes calmly, Defense Minister Häkkänen estimates.

The Minister of Defense who visited in the morning Antti Häkkänen (co.) takes a moderate view of the future president of the United States Donald Trump’s to speeches.

Trump’s administration starts on Monday next week, and according to Häkkänen, building official relations will start little by little until then.

– The people elect a leader for their country, who can do or not do things. In any case, the cooperation will continue in one form or another.

There has been a lot of talk this week when Trump even hinted at using military force to annex Greenland to the United States.

– As for the relations between Denmark and Greenland, they are Denmark’s internal issues, Häkkänen commented.

According to him, Trump’s speeches must of course be taken seriously.

– There have of course been exchanges of words about various issues with colorful words, but the truth is often more realistic, Häkkänen states.

Häkkänen: In NATO, the spirit is united

US interest in the Arctic region is not new, reminds Häkkänen.

Many kinds of interests are directed at the Arctic region, for example related to the economy, safety and raw materials.

– Greenland and the rest of the Arctic region are also directly related to the immediate security interests of the USA. This is nothing new, this has been the subject of very significant interest since the 50s, says Häkkänen.

According to Häkkänen, the attitude of other NATO countries towards Trump’s outbursts is also calm and moderate.

He estimates that the first meeting with the US administration led by Trump will show what kind of new thoughts or ideas the administration has.

– There is a very determined, united spirit in the federation that Russia together with their allies with the support of China form the main threat factors for the federation, Häkkänen states.
