There was probably no one who missed Färjestad’s Frank Neal’s tape knob on the club. And it was not cheap, either.
– We got to drink water instead of sports drinks, says Håkan Loob.
Before the 1981/82 season, Färjestads BK recruited the Canadian player Frank Neal. The hill was taken from the Finnish league, and became Färjestad’s only import player.
Really stuck out
Frank Neal is considered a real cult player and played two seasons with Färjestad before he rounded off the Sweden stay in HV71 during his last year in the country.
It was something that really stood out with the Canadian. There was probably no player in Swedish hockey who had a bigger tape knob than Frank Neal had. FBK icon Håkan Loob, who shared a locker room with the hill for two years, now reveals the consequences Neal’s enormous tape consumption had on the rest of the player squad.
“It was so high that…”
On Twitter, Håkan Loob writes that the whole squad was forced to drink only water so that the club could afford all the tape.
“The cost of the tape was so high that the team had to drink water instead of sports drinks, to balance the cost budget,” writes the Färjestads legend.
He further writes:
Frank (Neal) always said “it’s in my contract”. Just to accept for everyone else! Water is also good and good! ”.
