Håkan Loob is one of Swedish hockey’s biggest icons ever.
But when he himself gets the chance to appoint the very best in the SHL, he beats himself up.
– Very difficult to assess, because there are so many older players, he tells SVT before the top list is revealed.
There are few Swedish hockey players who can measure up Håkan Loobs merits from the career. With an incredible 566 points in 461 games in the Elitserien, then SHL, he is one of the very best scorers in history.
Loob’s career
To this day, Loob is the player who scored the most goals and points during a season in the Elitserien. The 1982-83 season will forever be iconic when the Gotlander scored an incredible 76 points in 36 games in the regular season.

There was also a SM gold with Färjestad before his career continued to the NHL and new Swedish records there. But when the icon now gets the chance to appoint the very best players in the SHL’s history, he actually chooses to nod himself.

5 best in the SHL
Nor giants like Peter Forsberg, Mats Sundin or Börje Salming takes place when Loob selects the five best SHL players ever. Instead, he chooses stalwarts who chose to remain in the league and produced over decades.
– Very difficult to assess, because there are so many older players. Old Brynäs and old Leksand, we also have Timrå as well, but those players may not have had time to play more than 8-13 years. Here we have guys who played 17-18 or 20 years on my list, he tells SVT Sport before he starts his countdown.

In fifth place comes Brynäs Ove Molinfourth place goes to Djurgården Fredrik Bremberg take care of and then the heavyweights will come on the podium. Loob chooses Frölunda’s long-term captain Joel Lundqvist as number three.
– The Eternity Machine. 20 year. Joel Lundqvist. We cannot praise him enough, he has done so much for Frölunda and Swedish hockey, says the SVT expert as justification.

Second is HV71’s club icon Johan Davidsson and first place goes to Färjestads Jörgen Jonsson care of.
– Johan is also significant with Jönköping and HV71. Won SM gold a number of times and a very, very good player, says Loob and elaborates on the winner Jönsson.
– As much as he has meant to Färjestad, 13 years at the club and all these successes. There are few who can measure up to him.
