The State Treasury is an authority that analyzes how state-funded businesses function. At the end of November, a report came out, which stated that “…the Sámi Parliament does not fully fulfill its mission in reindeer husbandry and community planning”.
– The report is interesting even if I don’t agree with everything, says Håkan Jonsson, Hunting and Fishing Sami.
“Not fit for purpose”
The State Office believes that the Sami Parliament’s management, control and follow-up are not appropriate.
The Sámi Parliament does not have time for all its tasks, in terms of reindeer husbandry, predators, game damage and taking advantage of Sámi interests in community planning, the report says.
Deficiencies in the annual report
The business plan, the annual report and the budget document have flaws, which make it difficult to assess the authority’s results and need for resources, according to the State Treasury.
The Sámi Parliament is an activity with dual roles, both authority and political body, and now Håkan Jonsson prioritizes the administrative.
– Right now I spend 90 percent of the time on the authority part, to steer it up, and ten percent on politics. If we get this sorted, it will then roll on, he says.
