Two years ago to the day, a commando of about twenty men burst into the house of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, shooting him dead. The crime remains unpunished and the country has sunk into a spiral of violence from which it is struggling to emerge. Calls for the intervention of an international force have multiplied in recent months to counter the power of the gangs which now control the majority of the territory. The latest by the UN Secretary General visiting the country last week. According to UN documents transmitted to certain Member States, the body would consider sending forces to support the Haitian police.
