Several people have been arrested, accused of trying to carry out a coup d’état in Ukraine.
During a gathering, they planned to take over the parliament.
In the house search of the perpetrators, both weapons and ammunition were found.
Ukraine’s security service SBU has averted an attempted coup d’état, it says Telegram. The coup would have been launched on June 30, two days after Ukraine’s Constitution Day.
The idea was to hold a peaceful gathering in a venue for 2000 people. It would announce the ousting of the military and political leadership of Ukraine and call on participants to resort to violence and storm the Verkhovna Rada parliament building in Kyiv.
The group’s leader is already known to have carried out “anti-Ukrainian actions”.
Only met in groups of three
The group was assisted by several representatives of public organizations in Kyiv, Dnipro and other regions.
The group also aimed to spread information about the ensuing unrest in local and international media, to benefit Russia.
In order to keep in touch without being discovered, they communicated with each other through messages, or in groups of a maximum of three people.
Had weapons and ammunition
In the house search of the perpetrators, the Ukrainian security service found weapons, ammunition, mobile phones, computer equipment and documents that later became important evidence.
An investigation is now underway to determine what happened and bring the perpetrators to justice. They risk up to ten years in prison.
