A 54-year-old man in Malmö is sentenced to 17 years in prison for manslaughter, a severe punishment compared to the district court. The remains of his victim, a man in his 20s, were found at home in his fridge and freezer.
They were found in November 2022, after the man himself went to the police together with a social worker to tell. The younger man had been allowed to sleep over at his home for some time and the now convicted man has claimed that he accidentally caused his death through an accident.
In the district court, he was sentenced to five years in prison for grossly causing the death of another, but the Court of Appeal considers it proven that he was guilty of murder.
The Court of Appeal takes note that the younger man was killed with a stab to the throat and that the victim had repulsive injuries in one hand.
Afterwards, the 54-year-old did not call 112. Instead, he cleaned the apartment thoroughly and got rid of the victim’s clothes and mobile phone.
“The 54-year-old’s story contains improbable or unrealistic elements and deviations to such an extent that the Court of Appeal considered that the claim of an accident has been disproved,” says Court of Appeal lawyer Bob Nilsson Hjorth in a press release.
The Court of Appeal has also made a different assessment regarding the woman who said she was the murder victim’s mother. The court considers that it has been proven that she is the mother and therefore she is awarded damages of SEK 110,000.
