The majority of attacks have been extortion attacks
Italy’s National Agency for Cyber Security (ACN) says that thousands of computer servers around the world have been targeted by hackers over the weekend.
According to the Italian news agency Ansa, attacks have been carried out in, for example, France, Finland, Canada and the United States.
The majority of attacks have been so-called ransomware attacks, meaning that hackers have tried to blackmail organizations and companies with malware and demanded a ransom to release the servers.
The US Cybersecurity Authority announced on Sunday evening that it is currently investigating the impact and scope of the attacks.
