Haas close start in the front row

It was a tough qualifying session at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on Saturday, local time, ahead of Sunday’s Grand Prix.

The Dutchman and world champion Max Verstappen from Red Bull had a fast time early on, which was enough all the way to pole position. It also happened to the Haas team’s Nico Hülkenberg, before the red flag came when the Australian Oscar Piastri, McLaren, slammed into the wall in the seventh corner.

When qualifying could resume, more rain had moved in, which according to F1’s site meant that there was no greater chance of improved times.

With that, Verstappen looked set to have a Haas driver by his side on the front row when the race is decided on Sunday, local time.

“It’s a bit unexpected, but I’m obviously very happy and the team did a solid job, it was very smooth,” says Hülkenberg according to Motorsport Weekand continues:

— It was a wild race, they were crazy, with changing conditions around here that were tricky with the walls so close and high exit speeds.

Later, however, Nico Hülkenberg was penalized and moved down three places as he broke the rules that apply in the event of a red flag.

Just behind Hamilton is the Spanish Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin and in the starting line behind the British Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
