Manchester City grabbed a historic, fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Erling Haaland scored two goals in the second half, when Manchester City, who rose to the top of the English Premier League, beat Tottenham away 2–0 (0–0). City, thirsting for its fourth consecutive championship, rose to 88 points with the win and two points ahead of Arsenal.
The loss meant fifth-placed Tottenham could no longer qualify for the Champions League next season. Aston Villa’s UCL place was sealed and it will enter Europe’s highest cup level together with City, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Kevin de Bruyne passed the opening goal to the Norwegian goal monster, who had an easy job of finishing from just over a meter in the 51st minute. Haaland scored his second goal from a penalty kick in the 90th minute.
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola’s the heart bounced big a couple of times in the second half, when the team’s key players received bumps from the opponent’s players.
Tottenham Pape Sarr would crush de Bruyne on the achilles tendon and Cristian Romero on the other hand, the City guard Ederson in the end so that both de Bruyne and Ederson came on as a substitute in the 69th minute. Sarr and Romero survived their fouls with yellow cards.
Ortega kept City afloat
Substitute Ortega eventually emerged as one of City’s heroes by saving a couple of tight situations between the posts in which Tottenham were close to leveling. Especially Ortega’s drive-through save with which he stopped Tottenham Son Heung-min In the 85th minute, there was a wonderful stretch.
Manchester City midfielder Rodri singled out one player when speaking to Sky Sports.
– Today was an incredible day, character decided. We know the game wasn’t our best, but we have to talk about the substitutes. Stefan Ortega was simply incredible when he entered the field in the middle of the game, we have the best goalkeeper in the world, Rodri beamed.
In the final round starting at 18:00 on Sunday, Manchester City will face West Ham and Arsenal will face Everton.
City will be crowned champions again if they beat West Ham. If City instead draw on Sunday and Arsenal beat Everton at the same time, then the championship trophy will go to London and the Gunners with a better goal difference.
– We know that the matter (championship) is not clear yet. We need people behind us, said City’s Rodri.
