On the eighth of July, two-year-old Émile disappeared from his grandparents’ home in the French Alpine village of Vernet. The boy was playing in the garden while his grandparents packed the car. Suddenly he was gone, which started a massive search effort. – Small ones like that are usually found within a radius of a few hundred meters from where you last saw them, because they have limited mobility. But that has not been done in this case and that indicates that something serious must have happened, says Leif GW Persson. Perpetrator among the relatives After the boy was not found for ten days, the active search has now been called off. – He is two years old, he has been gone for ten days. If he’s out on his own, he’s most likely dead by now. But if someone has picked him up, then it can be thought that he is alive. The French police do not rule out that the boy has been murdered or kidnapped. If he has been the victim of a crime, it is most likely that the perpetrator is among his immediate family, says GW. – He is at grandma and grandpa’s house at that time, but the father has a solid load. Parents and older siblings, that’s where you start in matters like this. Fortunately, this “ugly old man” is not as common as people think. In eight out of ten cases, you will find the perpetrator in the immediate social vicinity of the victim, it could be relatives or neighbors or playmates. Difficult to find dead bodies But the most likely thing is that he has been involved in an accident, says Leif GW Persson. He believes the boy may have been run over by a combine or a car, but the driver didn’t notice. – It may be that you haven’t even discovered it. It is very difficult to find dead bodies. You basically have to step on them to find them. See everything with GW here
