Guy crashes Elden Ring acceptance speech at Game Awards

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Many Game Awards viewers must have asked themselves the same questions: who was the guy who snuck onto the stage with the developers of From Software and what did he want to convey with his confused speech?

What happened at the Game Awards? As the Game Awards drew to a close, as the developers from the studio behind Elden Ring, From Software, accepted their Game of the Year award, another non-studio person snuck onto the stage with them.

After game director Hidetaka Miyazaki finished his acceptance speech, the young man walked to the microphone, surprising both the awardees and the audience. The award ceremony was actually over, and the music was already playing, which is normally supposed to entice award winners to leave the stage.

What did the person say? Once at the microphone, the young man used the attention and surprise of those around him to get his message across. He was then taken out of the room by security forces.

You know, real quick, I want to thank everybody and say that I think I want to nominate this award to my reformed orthodox rabbi Bill Clinton. Thank you everybody.

You know, just to make a long story short, I want to thank everyone and I want to say that I am nominating this award for my Reformed Orthodox Rabbi, Bill Clinton. Thank you all.

If you want to see how the scene played out, we linked a Twitter post by user @matenevenoff here. The person Matan Even is said to be the one who crashed the Game Awards. However, his identity has not yet been clarified beyond doubt.

What is known about the person? Shortly after the incident, viewers began to speculate as to who just stole the show and what his message was all about. Some users on Twitter noted that the message could mean an alt-right person.

Other users, in turn, defended the troublemaker and even indicated that they knew the identity of the person. The well-known gaming journalist Jason Schreier has now been able to interview the person. You can read his assessment in the linked tweet.

If the person on stage is actually Matan Evan, this would not be the first time that he has used the attention of press events for political messages. Matan Evan had already attracted attention in 2019 during the “Free Hong Kong controversy” at Blizzcon. On his social media channels, he draws attention to discrimination against Asian Americans and police brutality.

What happened next? Game Awards host Geoff Keighley confirmed via Twitter that the suspect had been arrested by police.

Nevertheless, many questions remain unanswered: How could an uninvolved person gain access to the stage so easily? What’s with the confused message? In any case, it is clear that the safety precautions at the Game Awards will probably be a little stricter in the future.
