Brantford Police arrested two men in two different traffic stops on Jan. 3 and, in the process, seized three illegally carried guns and tens of thousands of dollars worth of street drugs.

At about 1:15 am that day, officers saw a suspicious vehicle around Colborne Street and Park Avenue and stopped it, finding the driver was wanted on a warrant.

An officer saw a bullet in plain view in the car and, during a search, found a loaded .45 caliber gun, said Brantford Police. Suspected fentanyl, cocaine-crack, hydromorphone pills, morphine pills, Alprazolam pills, methylphenidate pills and hydromorphone Dilaudid pills were found, along with a pair of brass knuckles that had a folding blade in them.
The drugs in the vehicle, found with the assistance of the Brantford Police K-9 Team, are estimated to have a value of between about $38,000 and $57,000.
A 20-year-old man, who is not from Brantford, faces charges of possession of fentanyl, cocaine-crack, hydromorphone, benzodiazepine and methylphenidate for trafficking.

He was also charged with seven firearms offenses, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He’s been held for a bail hearing.
A few hours later that day, at about 4:30 am, officers were running a speed enforcement operation on Colborne Street East when they recorded a driver going 91 km/h in a zone posted at 50 km/h.
They stopped the vehicle and, after seeing suspicious behavior, arrested the driver.
A search turned up two restricted guns, multiple rounds of ammunition and about $5,000 worth of suspected cocaine, along with some crystal methamphetamine.
A 24-year-old Brantford man is charged with possession of cocaine and crystal meth for trafficking, 12 firearms offenses and tampering with a serial number.
He also was held for a bail hearing.
