Gunman arrested at Trump campaign rally • Third suspected assassination attempt
An armed man in his 50s was arrested on Saturday near Donald Trump’s campaign meeting outside the Coachella Valley in California in the United States. This is stated by the local police in a press release.
“We probably stopped another assassination attempt,” local police officer Chad Bianco told the New York Post.
The man, who was traveling in a black SUV, was carrying a fake entry card to the meeting, a shotgun, a pistol, and a “high capacity” magazine.
The man was arrested on suspicion of illegal weapons possession, but was then released on bail on Saturday.
Trump’s campaign meeting or the participants are said not to have been affected by the incident.
Shot earlier this year
In July of this year, Donald Trump was slightly wounded when he was shot by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks during a campaign rally in the state of Pennsylvania. One person in the audience died during the shooting.
Also in September of this year, Trump’s team stated that a shooting took place at the presidential candidate’s golf course in Florida. Shortly afterwards, 58-year-old Ryan Routh was arrested on suspicion of weapons offences.
