Gunde Svan names the best skier on the women’s side – nodding both Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson

There is great competition among the cross-country skiers on the women’s side.
Gunde Svan points out a Swede who stands out.
– She has the biggest titles, he says to Sportbibeln.

On the women’s side in Swedish cross-country skiing, we have many at the top of the world. Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson, Jonna Sundling, Emma Ribom, Lynn Svahn, Maya Dahlqvist. The list goes on!

Strong season

Then the big icon Charlotte Kalla laid off, the spotlight has shone more on the other Swedish riders. And then Therese Johaug laid off, Sweden has had an increasing chance at the medals, although of course there are a lot of talented Norwegians left to beat.

Last season, the Swedish ladies really showed their best side. Ebba Andersson became the skiing World Cup’s great queen with her four medals, two of which were gold. For Jonna Sundling, there were also two WC gold medals. Maja Dahlqvist took home the overall sprint cup, and Frida Karlsson won the Tour de Ski.

Gunde’s best

The skiing legend Gunde Swan pays tribute to the Swedish women’s racers and highlights their strengths.
– In classic, Frida and Ebba have fought over that place. In the sprint it is Maja Dahlqvist, Linn Svahn and Sundling who have taken turns, that is an advantage. On the women’s side, Norway has had for many years that they have so many skaters who can step in if someone has a bad day, gets sick or something else goes wrong.
– There, the sprint girls have shown time and time again that, if Maja is not at the top, Jonna takes it instead, they sort of share it. They really have to be at their best, and that really encourages training and other things. So that development is constantly moving forward for them, Gunde tells Sportbibeln.

Because of that, it is difficult to select the best female rider. Even for someone as experienced and seasoned as Gunde Svan. But there is one crucial thing.
– Jonna probably has the biggest titles if you look at merit, he says.
