Bostan knows all the customers and all the customers know her. According to regular customers, she is a household name. “I’m a kid from the street in Utrecht, I know everyone here,” says 86-year-old Mr. Van Anrooy from Ondiep. While Bostan scans his groceries, he chats laughing with the customer behind him, the gentleman walking by and with the cashier. Not a hair on his head thinks about ever going to the self-checkout. He has never paid by card, he says proudly. The groceries have now been packed and Mr. Van Anrooy is leaving again. “Bye girl, bye girl,” he says to the staff, winking.
