Finally, the striker sat on the press conference podium. After months of waiting, AIK was finally able to show off its well-known new acquisition at home at Friends arena, ahead of a small press contingent.
– It is a fantastic feeling, it was a long process but in the end it turned out as we both wanted, he says.
The transition from Alavés was rumored to be ready already last winter. But according to AIK, the deal then broke down due to stranded negotiations with the Spanish club. John Guidetti does not want to say exactly what happened at the moment.
– We can take it then at some point, in the future. But it has been special. Now I look forward to enjoying my football again.
The premiere training with AIK will be on 7 June. In the last season, the playing time in his former Spanish club Alavés has become less and less. But the 30-year-old is not too worried about the form.
– I have not played as many football matches as I wanted, I have been without a holiday for a year, so of course I see this a bit like a pre-season. And then you have to build it up as a pre-season as well, Guidetti says about the coming time, until he is ready to play on July 15.
The current contract extends to December 31, 2025.
The last time John Guidetti played in the Allsvenskan was in 2010. Then he had a successful season in Brommapojkarna, on loan from Manchester City. As a foreign professional, he has later also represented clubs such as Feyenoord, Celta Vigo, Alavés and Hannover. In the Swedish national team jersey, Guidetti has scored three goals in 29 matches.
According to John Guidetti, there were offers from other, more money-loving leagues than the Allsvenskan. But when he had to decide the next step in his career, other things weighed more heavily.
– I sat and valued my life, what I felt. Of course I could go somewhere else, play in a league like where you might make more money but you do not feel that pride when you get up in the morning. I felt that I could go here and help make the supporters happy, do something that actually matters.
– So far in my football career I have done sick things but I never think I had so much fun when I played in BP.
– Now I want to find joy. My driving force has never been money or flashy things. ag is fine, my family is fine. Now I want to do what is my passion, which has been since I was a little boy.
