If you live in Sweden and have the right to vote, you should have received a voting card in the mail.

Right to vote in the various elections

You have the right to vote Parliamentif you are:

  • 18 years at the latest on election day
  • Swedish citizen and
  • is or has been registered in Sweden.
  • You have the right to vote regional and municipal councils if you are:

  • 18 years at the latest on election day
  • Swedish citizen and registered in the municipality and region
  • or

  • citizens of one of the EU member states or citizens of Iceland or Norway and are registered in the municipality and region, or
  • citizen of a country other than those listed above, or stateless, and has been registered in Sweden for three consecutive years before election day, and is registered in the municipality or region.
  • You who are Swedish abroad have the right to vote in the parliamentary elections.

    Democracy turns 101 years old

    At the end of the First World War, the Riksdag decided on universal and equal voting rights for women and men (May 24, 1919). The reform was carried out following proposals from a coalition government consisting of liberals and social democrats.

    After the 1921 election, five women took a seat in the Riksdag, and not until after this election did the Riksdag fully become a democratic representation of the entire people.
