In Destiny 2, the Guardians have completed a two-week community event in the record time of 25 hours and have already collected all the rewards for it. This was made possible by the new “donation exploit”. MeinMMO tells you how they did it.
Which event have players now cracked in record time? In the last two weeks of Season 18, all Guardians in Destiny 2 should help make Eliksni District a better, new home for the fallen and their sweet babies through hard grind and donations. Because they now live with the people on earth in the Last City, but still without walls, shelter and above all without warmth.
As a goal for the community event, in order to be able to completely expand the locations in the Eliksni district, Bungie therefore set a total donation sum for all keepers of an impressive 400,000,000 captain coins. In exchange for each community goal, players will receive Eliksni District Gift Boxes that grant Deepvision Resonance Weapons, Eververse Engrams, Bright Dust, and Glimmer.
It was planned that the guardians would play the various activities in Destiny 2 again and again until December 6th, at the start of Season 19, and then gradually donate the captain coins they received there in order to achieve all the individual goals.
Definitely not something that is done quickly. But because Destiny players have always been good at finding the path of least resistance, an exploit that eliminated the week-long grind was also quickly discovered.
Maximum reward rank after a few minutes: Thanks to the new “Donation Exploit”, the complete event grind of two weeks can be completed in minutes, the rewards can be obtained and the Eliksni home can be improved in no time.
So instead of being plagued by a bad conscience because you didn’t immediately start grinding enthusiastically to give the many little Eliksni babies a warm home for the winter, the community used the exploit instead.
This then also distorted the statistics that players had created specifically for the two-week event and caused the progression curve to climb extremely steeply. At the time of this writing, the amount of donated materials has already reached 877,430,918, more than doubling the goal of 400,000,000.
Exploit generates donation material out of thin air: Normally, in order to receive the rewards for this community event, each player would have to donate 2,400 Commander Coins. However, it is also possible to donate materials, treasure coordinates, and map fragments instead of Commander Coins. And that’s exactly what the guardians have now slyly taken advantage of.
However, certain requirements must also be met for the exploit to work:
However, if you take all this into account, you can complete the entire fundraising marathon about the exploit in just a few minutes with many clicks.
Destiny Bulletin shows on Twitter how easy it is to get fundraiser material out of thin air and bag the rewards that way.
Are there penalties for exploit use? While this is essentially an exploit for a good cause, it still bypasses the intended game mechanics. You end up stealing material out of nowhere and getting rewarded for it.
So far, Bungie has not officially commented on the exploit or announced a patch for it. Should this change, we will inform you and of course update this article.
It must also be taken into account that some players have already exploited the gap, made their donations and collected the rewards. Thus, getting the results of the community event back to correct numbers could prove to be very difficult. Nevertheless, consequences cannot be ruled out.
So you can be done quickly without pangs of conscience
Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a good way for players to “profitably” get rid of seasonal items during this community event has once again created room for a new bug in Destiny 2.
What many people don’t know, however, is that you can theoretically be done just as quickly without having to resort to the donation exploit.
If you want to be fair, but still like to finish quickly, we recommend the safe way. This goes beyond donating your soon-to-be useless destination materials, such as baryon stems or helium filaments.
Destination materials will soon be obsolete anyway: To provide more clarity, Destiny 2 will ban all known planetary destination materials from your inventory from Season 19 onwards. Mainly because guardians have accumulated an infinite number of them over the past seasons. They are now clogging up the inventories and new players have not been able to cope well with this variety of “currencies”.
So this is the perfect opportunity to clean up the inventory before the start of Season 19 and most importantly get something for it besides Glimmer. The only requirement for this donation method is that you have at least 2,400 destination materials.
Did you already know about the exploit or did you just find out about it now? How do you feel about Guardians using such exploits? And what do you think of Bungie offering a meaningful way for you to get rid of old season or soon-to-be-obsolete destination materials via “donations in return”?
