The results did not reveal whether the change is due to, for example, a decrease in interest or war fatigue.
The desire of Western Europeans to support Ukraine until its victory, even at the risk of prolonging the war, has drastically decreased, says Guardian magazine. According to the newspaper, an extensive survey on the matter was conducted this month by the research company YouGov.
According to the survey, the willingness to support Ukraine until victory, despite the fact that supporting Ukraine in a war of aggression against Russia would prolong the war, has dropped sharply compared to February of last year in all countries where the survey was conducted.
The survey was carried out in December in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark and Great Britain. About 1,000–2,000 respondents from each country participated in it.
Instead, support for a negotiated solution to end the fighting had increased in all countries surveyed. The solution was supported, even if it meant that Russia would be allowed to continue occupying some parts of Ukraine.
Enthusiasm to support Ukraine militarily until its victory was highest in Sweden, Denmark and Britain, but the numbers had decreased in all of them by about 10 percentage points or more.
According to the Guardian, it was not clear from the poll results, which are worrying for Ukraine, whether the change is due to, for example, a decrease in interest or increased war fatigue.
According to the poll, few Western Europeans believe that neither Russia nor Ukraine could win the war in the coming year.
