    A guard has been hit during road work in Vällingby in Stockholm.

    The motorist fled the scene, according to the police officer on duty, Jenny Ryberg.

    The alarm came in at 10 p.m.

    – The man is slightly injured. We don’t know exactly what happened, but we have a handle on the driver now, she says.

    The motorist is suspected of causing bodily harm and contagion from a traffic accident.

  • SMHI warns of thunder and rain

    SMHI has issued a yellow warning for thunder in northwestern Götaland and western Svealand.

    According to the weather authority, torrential rain and strong gusts of wind are also expected.

    Due to the rain, there is a risk of flooded roads, basements and that the electricity supply and train traffic are disrupted.

    The warning applies from Thursday afternoon to Saturday night.

    At the age of 54, the world’s oldest sloth has fallen asleep.

    The two-toed sloth, who went by the name Jan, was born in the wild and then spent 38 years of his life at the Krefeld zoo near Düsseldorf in Germany.

    “It was very difficult for his caretakers to say goodbye to him, as many of them have cared for him for over 25 years,” the zoo writes in a statement.

    “He was nicknamed the ‘record sloth’ not only for his age, but also for his high number of offspring,” writes the zoo.

    In 2021, Jan’s age earned him a place in the Guinness Book of Records, as the oldest living sloth in captivity. Since then, he has been recognized in the record book every year.

  • UN: Israel fired at marked UN vehicle

    The UN accuses Israel of shelling a clearly marked UN vehicle in a convoy with at least ten bullets as it approached an Israeli roadblock, Reuters reports.

    Now the UN food program WFP is temporarily pausing its work in Gaza.

    According to WFP, the vehicle must have received several permits from Israeli authorities to pass the roadblock.

    No one should have been physically harmed.

    A woman in her 30s has been hit by a tram in Gothenburg.

    The alarm came in at 8 p.m.

    – We are on site, but we do not have much information at the moment, says Jens Andersson at the police.

    At 9 p.m., the police state that the woman did not need to be taken to hospital.

    The incident is being investigated as negligence in traffic.

    A motorboat has started to burn outside Ljungskile.

    The alarm came in at 7 p.m.

    – It is a leisure boat that was moored at a small island. The two people on board were able to step onto the island, says Malin Karlsson, command operator at the rescue service.

    Maritime rescue, police and emergency services have been alerted to the scene.

    No one was injured in connection with the fire.

  • New mining agreement – Samiby withdraws the appeal

    The mining company Viscaria and the Sami village of Laeva have entered into a cooperation agreement regarding the Viscaria mine in Kiruna.

    The agreement means that Laevas must be compensated for the impact of the mining operations on reindeer herding in the Viscaria area. In addition, Laevas must withdraw its appeal against Viscaria’s environmental permit issued by the Land and Environment Court.

    “I am very happy that we have reached an agreement and we look forward to working together with Laeva’s Sami village to create good conditions for both mining operations and reindeer herding. We are continuing our work to be able to reopen the mine in 2026,” says Jörgen Olsson, CEO of Viscaria in a press release.

    The agreement is valid for 15 years and can then be extended by the parties, but Laevas has the right to terminate the agreement early.

    “Laeva’s Sami village has made a big and difficult decision today and has chosen to enter into a cooperation agreement with Viscaria. We look forward to a good dialogue with the company going forward”, says Niila Inga, chairman of Laeva’s Sami village in the press release.

    One person has been taken to hospital after a cross-country accident in Skene in Marks municipality.

    Ambulance and emergency services have been called to the scene, according to P4 Sjuhärad.

    The extent of the damage is unclear.

    Two cars have collided on the E4 in Rotebro, north of Stockholm, according to the police.

    – Two people are taken to hospital, one by ambulance helicopter and one by ambulance, says police spokesperson Nadya Norton.

    A healthcare center in Gothenburg has filed a Lex Maria report after a patient was exposed to a serious medical injury, writes the news agency Siren.

    During a visit to the health center in 2020, the man told about problems with the foreskin. Due to several mistakes in healthcare, the man was only examined for the problem three years later. Among other things, a referral to a urologist’s office was forgotten.

    At the time when the man received his examination, the doctor immediately suspected that the man had cancer and judged that his penis needed to be amputated.

    In the care center’s Lex Maria notification to the Health and Care Inspectorate, it is stated that the referral was initially sent to the wrong person. Later, the referral was also not sent through the standardized fast track that is supposed to speed up care for patients suspected of having cancer.

    A man in his 80s has died after being hit by a car in Ängelholm.

    Another person is said to have been hit by the car and taken to hospital by ambulance.

    The car then collided with a tree. The driver, an 85-year-old woman, is suspected of negligence in traffic, causing bodily harm and causing the death of another.

    Police and ambulance were called to Skäggetorp after a man fell through a window and landed on the ground.

    A fight must have taken place in the apartment. The police have arrested four people.

    Now they are investigating whether the man was thrown through the window.

  • Dogs left in a hot car – sentenced for animal cruelty

    A 70-year-old woman is convicted of animal cruelty after leaving two dogs alone in a car in the sun with the windows closed, writes Sydsvenskan.

    On a sunny day in May last year, a person walked past the parked car in a residential area in Arlöv. There were two barking dogs in the car, and according to the person, they appeared to be affected by the heat.

    The police were called to the scene and immediately made the assessment that they needed to break the window pane to save the dogs.

    When the case was brought up in Malmö district court, the county veterinarian testified that the heat in the car that day could have caused tissue and organ damage to the dogs. In the worst case, a dog can die in such circumstances.

    The woman admits that the dogs did not have access to water and that she forgot to open the car window, but denies that she intended to harm the animals. She is sentenced to animal cruelty and must pay daily fines worth SEK 5,200.

  • Denied asylum in Sweden – arrested by police in home country

    A man from Belarus who had his asylum application rejected in Sweden has been arrested on his return to his home country, according to information from Sweden’s Radio Echo.

    The man and his mother sought asylum in Sweden two years ago after participating in protests against President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s regime in Belarus in 2020.

    According to Ekot, they have stated to the Swedish Migration Agency that criminal investigations have been opened against them in their home country and that they said they were afraid to return for fear of being imprisoned for political reasons.

    They both had their asylum applications rejected last year and were deported from Sweden a week ago.

    Relatives, with whom Ekot has been in contact, now say that the man was arrested when he crossed the border into Belarus, and taken to a detention center in the capital, Minsk. What he is accused of is not known.

    According to the human rights organization Viasna, there are over 1,300 political prisoners in Belarusian prisons.
