GTA 6: Might Fall Below Expectations

With the GTA 6 reveal trailer and the huge excitement that followed, the gaming world is eagerly awaiting the GTA 6 release date. However, a former Rockstar developer predicts that some fans may be “disappointed on day one” because he didn’t expect the GTA 6 experience to be “wildly different” from GTA 5.

Obbe Vermeij, who worked on classic games like GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, and GTA 4 for Rockstar from 1995 to 2009, says in a new podcast that many aspects of GTA 6 will be bigger and better, but it won’t be the huge leap forward that many were hoping for. “It just seems like they basically took GTA 5 even further, doesn’t it?” Vermeij says. “The scene that surprised me was the beach scene where everyone seems to be doing something different, where each character has their own animation. I think that looks pretty great. But I don’t think it’s going to be wildly different from GTA 5. I think people might be a little disappointed on day one. But it’s still going to be the best game on the market.”

Vermeij notes that the size of the technological leap between console generations is a big factor in GTA 6 not seeing a seismic shift compared to GTA 5. He adds that GTA 6 prioritized the console audience when it launched, with a PC version coming at a later date.

While Vermeij has stated that he has “no insider knowledge” of GTA 6’s development, he does have a fair amount of knowledge about how Rockstar works. Having worked for Rockstar in the past and detailing his time at the studio, Vermeij has finally explained why one of GTA San Andreas’ most peculiar in-game events happened, and began writing a blog about the development process of past Rockstar games. However, following complaints from his former employer, he removed most of the content from the blog and stopped posting.
